As an actor – not an artiste, as in the entertainment sense – one will always face the criticism of being a hypocrite. But this term has been intellectually interrogated by David Runciman, turning the word Hypocrisy on its head, opening new perspectives (http://press.princeton.edu/titles/8605.html)
I personally would like to see acting – as part of human function – to be a vehicle to transmit information and promote humanity. It is an effective avenue to lend voice to lots of people.
American monologist Sarah Jones said it all in the follow Ted Talk video:

Enjoy!
